Muslim Funeral Flowers
The Muslim view on flowers and the proper etiquette for sending them depends on the Islamic sect and scholarly interpretation.
Permissive View: Limited Use is Acceptable
Some Islamic scholars, particularly within the Hanafi and Shafii traditions, consider the use of plants or flowers on graves to be permissible or, in certain situations, encouraged. This view is based on a prophetic hadith involving a palm branch, which is interpreted as a sign that any fresh, living plant glorifies Allah and may bring benefit.
Flowers are generally not exchanged widely during Muslim funerals. However, close family members may place flowers on top of the grave after the burial as a sign of respect and remembrance.
Roses and lilies are commonly preferred when flowers are used.
